The Great Transgression: When Presumption when imagination Replaces God

Thomas Whitley · August 14, 2026

One serious problem I see in society today is presumption—people assuming they know what is right, acting without humility, and increasingly believing they can live, lead, and make decisions without accountability to God.

David prayed:

«“Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins… then shall I be innocent from the great transgression.”

— Psalm 19:13 (KJV)»

We see the consequences of pride and presumption in greed, corruption, abuse of power, division, deception, lack of accountability, and people placing themselves above others. Scripture warned that difficult times would include people becoming “lovers of their own selves… boasters, proud” and “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.”

— 2 Timothy 3:1–5

Jesus also warned of deception, lawlessness, and love growing cold.

— Matthew 24:4–13

But Scripture doesn't call Christians to respond with fear, hatred, or speculation. It calls us to discernment, humility, repentance, truth, prayer, and action.

«“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”

— James 4:6»

The solution begins with Jesus Christ: humble ourselves before God, test what we hear against Scripture, reject deception, defend the vulnerable, serve our neighbors, speak truth with love, and refuse to repay evil with evil.

«“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

— Romans 12:21»

We may not control what happens throughout society, but we can control what we allow God to do through us.

Do justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly with God.

— Micah 6:8

That is where real change begins—in Jesus’ name.

Fantastic. I thought this sometime back. We need a greater picture of God and our reward than the enticing images of sin and temptation.
